Year 1

Oil exploration is new in Kenya and one of the first things Example Oil did was to listen and learn, we set about building consultation groups with key community members and hearing the concerns and hopes our  presense in the area offered. A formal survey was commisioned and identified key areas we needed to address: jobs, communications, add relevant benefit to the area. Projects launched: Local bus service, Egg farming and sales, First education support. We also ensured as much was sourced from local suppliers to support operations and that local people were not just employed, but trained.

Year 2

The beginning of the year saw some of our first employees from the area gaining formal rig qualifications and becoming core team members as part of the drilling crews. Our egg program was so successful we expanded it to sell more product at cost to local suppliers to ship to Nairobi itself.  As we have gained positive exploration results from exploration we have also increased our CSR commitment working with the community on an ambitious plan to develop irrigation channels with our own engineers working to build channels. After a few false starts we all learnt together as a team, Company and community the successful way to develop major irrigation routes and are seeing the first crops being sown on "reclaimed" land today.  

Outlook

As exploration continues to be successful we shall be looking to make further investment in Kenya as part of operations. With that we shall look to provide more employment, skills training and increase our CSR offering from that of an exploration company into an oil producer. Once negotiations are complete with Government our intention is to allocate a set amount of profits each year to be carried through to sponsor opportunities for local people in the community we are honored to be part of.
